Classroom Environment
Our staff of experienced teachers and caregivers work to provide learning experiences that allow for hands-on exploration in a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment. Whenever possible, we maintain lower child-to-teacher ratios than required by state guidelines.
This model ensures quality care for young children and personalized learning for those that are school age. We encourage children to adopt self-control, self-direction, self-esteem, and cooperation. Our staff is trained to use positive methods of discipline, including Conscious Discipline practices, which help guide children toward self-discipline and independence.
Approach
Our programs follow the High Scope approach, using active learning, adult-child interaction, strategic environments, and a daily routine to facilitate development. We implement the Infant/Toddler curriculum for our youngest children and the Preschool curriculum for those age 2 ½ years through kindergarten.
Active Learning:
Children are involved in direct, hands-on experiences with people, objects, ideas, and events.
Adult-Child Interaction:
Adults observe and interact with children—at their level—to discover how each child thinks and reasons.
Learning Environment:
The classroom is arranged into clearly defined interest areas, enabling children to find, use, and return the materials they need in order to explore, invent, and learn about their world.
Daily Routine:
This includes a “Plan, Do, Review” process, which gives children the opportunity to pursue their own interests, make plans, follow through on them, and reflect on their experiences with peers and adults.
Literacy
To teach children letters and sounds, we use a curriculum called Zoo-phonics. In this program, each letter is assigned an animal and body movement. Zoo-phonics fully engages the child’s eyes, ears, mouth, and body as they learn phonemic awareness and the alphabet.
Development
Our teachers look for key developmental indicators in the following areas:
Approaches to Learning
Social and Emotional Development
Physical Development and Health
Language Literacy and Communication
